LIJF 2025: Creative Sessions

NB: Sessions are free to attend but please pre-book by completing the link at this page (https://forms.gle/PFTg3qoE14Dbnqst5) or emailing Neil Campbell at campben@hope.ac.uk by end of Thurs 20th Feb, with details of your name, age, ability level, the instrument you are bringing and the session/s you wish to attend.

Liverpool International Jazz Festival will take place at Liverpool Hope University’s Capstone Theatre from Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd February 2025. Thanks to National Lottery Arts Council funding, the Festival is able to offer an array of free to access, hands on, Creative Sessions for musicians of all ages. 

There are seven Creative Sessions in total taking place at Liverpool Hope University Creative Campus on Saturday 22nd February. These include:


 - 10am (Cornerstone Theatre [COR 001], Cornerstone Building) - Playing Music Together with Florian Arbenz: Groove, solos, and interplay for all instruments (90 mins)
 - 10.30am (Great Hall, Cornerstone Building) - Brass Workshop with Percy Pursglove: Focus on breathing, flexibility, and range for brass players (90 mins)
 - 11am (Capstone Theatre) - Demystifying Indian Classical Music with Rekesh Chauhan: Learn about ragas, talas, and rhythm cycles (30 mins)
 - 11.30am (Capstone Theatre) - Performing Indian Classical Music with Rekesh Chauhan & Kousic Sen: Hands-on raga performance and improvisation (60 mins)
 - 11am (Grace Room [COR 114], Cornerstone Building) - Polyrhythm and Improvisation with Ivo Neame: Explore rhythmic techniques and polyrhythms in jazz (120 mins)
 - 11.30am (CAP 009, Capstone Building) - Songwriting with Immy Churchill: Tips on lyrics, melody, and chords (60 mins)
 - 2pm (Grace Room [COR 114], Cornerstone Building) - Composition with Christy Doran: Learn to create compositions with space for improvisation (60 mins)

Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend these free admission sessions. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If you or your children wish to attend, please send details of name, age, ability level and instruments you are planning to bring, along with the session/s you wish to attend, either via the form https://forms.gle/PFTg3qoE14Dbnqst5 or by emailing Neil Campbell at campben@hope.ac.uk by Tuesday 20th February at the latest.
