LIJF 2025: Köln Concert 50: Free variations on Keith Jarrett’s Köln Concert
Sunday, 23 February 2025 Time: 1pmDorian Ford - piano
Internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Dorian Ford celebrates the 50th anniversary of Keith Jarrett’s legendary improvised 1975 Köln Concert with this unique performance. Reaching back through time he blends his passion for Jarrett’s brilliant original with his own improvisations – his riffs and grooves re-igniting the spark of genius of the young Jarrett. The original live recording is still the best-selling solo piano album in history (both classical and jazz).
Initially studying classical piano, Dorian’s love of jazz grew through attending a weekly workshop led by the great jazz innovator, Ian Carr. The discovery of Keith Jarrett’s work, with its seamless blend of jazz improvisation and classical discipline, marked a turning point in Dorian’s musical development. Dorian went on to study at Berklee College of Music where he was awarded the prestigious Chick Corea Jazz Masters Award not once, but twice.
Dorian plays regularly in London (The Vortex, 606, Ronnie Scott’s, Wigmore Hall) as well as internationally (recent tours in Australia and Japan). His music has been featured in films, TV and radio.
