The Mutant Jazz series of events is now into its fourth year, showcasing some of the most exciting bands, chosen by promoter Parrjazz, from the vibrant grassroots jazz scene in Liverpool. All the bands play occasionally in small bars around town, so this is an opportunity for those new to the scene to see them in one place. This year Parrjazz have chosen the Jacaranda Baltic venue to be their new Mutant home base. Parking is easy, they have a vinyl record shop, and food is available across the way in the Baltic Market. In 2027 The Fringe Festival is is delighted to be supported by Jazz North Promoters’ Bursary and Arts Council of England Grassroots Fund.

Schedule:

9:15pm: Ambro Collective – A young, exciting Liverpool-based jazz fusion ensemble known for blending jazz, funk, and experimental sounds. Anchored in the city’s music scene, they hold a popular residency at The Grapes on Roscoe Street, where their distinctive style has earned them a loyal following. At the helm is Skye Ambrosius, musician, composer, and founder, whose vision and leadership have been instrumental in defining the band’s identity. With a background in both performance and composition, Skye brings a dynamic energy to the group, blending traditional jazz with modern influences. His commitment to fostering talent has inspired a new generation of musicians in the community.

10:15pm: Cerebellum Band – A high-energy, 6-piece instrumental funk and jazz-fusion band based in Liverpool, influenced by 1970s funk and Japanese jazz fusion. Known for their tight, groovy performances, Cerebellum are carving their way in the UK music scene. Cerebellum’s sound has been described as “the future of fusion music”.

11:15pm: Misha Gray’s Intergalactic Jazz Quintet – An off-planet super-group consisting many of the top players in the North including Misha Gray on keys, Ishy Aasgaard on trombone, Neil Yates on trumpet, Will Hogan on bass and Adam Fairclough on drums. Playing heavy sci-fi grooves through electronic effects, they will be launching their 1st vinyl EP on the Mutant Jazz label. Misha’s other project, the Prehistoric Jazz Quartet has released many records to date, but it will be the first for the Intergalactics and for Mutant Jazz!

All night from 8pm, DJ Copious Notes will present an all-vinyl jazz-spectrum DJ playing fusion, hip-hop, soul, acid jazz and funk.
