On the Festival’s Saturday night, we return to Jacaranda Baltic with a programme that the Festival Fringe feels complements the earlier Soft Machine concert. Liverpool has a young progressive rock and jazz fusion scene so what better than to bring to you three of the best exponents we have of these genres.

Bad Glitches compose original arrangements, inspired by computer games music, to deliver jazz fusion classics you have never heard before, and have dusted off their keytar to bring a true 1980’s vibe to their set. Tavananna are definitively on the rock side of the prog moon, and deliver keyboard-led grooves. Dominic Sanderson brings a fresh interpretation of the early 1970s Canterbury scene and, yes, they have a Mellotron!

Parking is easy at the Jacaranda Baltic venue, they have a vinyl record shop, and food is available across the way in the Baltic Market. In 2027 The Fringe is delighted to be supported by Jazz North Promoters’ Bursary and Arts Council of England Grassroots Fund.

Schedule:

9:15pm: Bad Glitches – A project that pulls together musical influences from video games and jazz fusion and turns them into a whole new jazz genre! The band includes Dan Barreto, Cia Tomasso, Jack Lewis, Fran Mills and Adam Fairclough

10:15pm: Tavananna – Heavy, heavy, original progsters. Forged in Liverpool from a crucible of diverse musical disciplines, Tavananna is a four-piece band where the intricate language of jazz, the grandeur of classical, the raw power of rock, and the soul of folk music collide. This unique fusion of backgrounds is not just a detail of their origin; it is the very engine of their sound

11:15pm: Dominic Sanderson – A 26-year-old progressive rock artist influenced by the likes of Steven Wilson, Van der Graaf, King Crimson and Caravan. Now on his third more jazz-inspired album.

All night from 8pm, DJ Copious Notes will present an all-vinyl jazz-spectrum DJ playing fusion, hip-hop, soul, acid jazz and funk.
